A Sad Day

Yesterday was a sad day due to the passing of Maurice Sendak. Years ago, I had the extreme pleasure of entering a larger than life version of Where the Wild Things Are & In the Night Kitchen at the Metrion in San Francisco. It was so amazing to be completely surrounded by his art.  It's no longer there, unfortunately. I also saw his sketchbooks and handwritten manuscripts at The Children's Museum here in San Jose awhile back.

This is from my copy of his book, Mommy. I'm busy with sketches for the next book and feeling his great spirit while I draw. Thank you Mr. Sendak.

Addendum: Listen to several wonderful interviews with him here. Warning! You will cry your eyes out at the end.
