I've been so inspired by Kelly Light's blog Ripple. It's amazing how it has snowballed. I've donated/bought about four painting already. I've lost control. I finally got my sketch card finished. It's about 5 1/2" x 5" and is an original color pencil painting. You can get it here for a $10 donation. What a deal!

Welcome! For those of you who are visiting for the first time, let me introduce myself. I am a published children's illustrator living in Northern California and I'm currently building a licensing business. Thank you to Karen Valentine of My desert Cottage for hosting this party.
I also create Semi Custom Collage portraits which you can order from here.
Considering all the procrastination associated with this post, it's a miracle that I got it up. Whew! Of course, I used a lot of smoke and mirrors to get it done. I have yet to actually sew up the closet curtains or the window treatment. They're so wildly colorful, that even I have been hesitant to commit. I hung the fabric up just to think about it. The window one is completely done in Photoshop. much quicker than sewing. I love that Laura Gunn fabric!
In the interest of full disclosure, my studio never looks this clean. I'm an "out of site, out of mind" kind of person, so I always have a lot of stuff out. So far, I only paint at this drawing board. I sketch and paint/color over at my desk.
My husband was against taking these shelves from the old house, but I love them so much I couldn't leave them. Not to mention that I was in no mood to shop for, cut, and paint another set. Those elephants used to hang in my sister's crib. They are so 70s!
On the top shelf you can see a popcorn can I got a long time ago as a gift. It's illustrated by my all time favorite illustrator, Viv Eisner. I just love that my red wall is an exact match. I had no idea when I chose the color!
Toot & Puddle have a place of honor here. Don't you just love their monogramed pjs?
I got that reindeer at Starbucks. My favorite color combo is red or orange with lime green. Yum! The little house book is what inspired me to become and illustrator. I love having it in plain sight. The heart painting is the first collage I did after reading Kelly Rae Roberts book, Taking Flight. Love her, love that book!
Here's where I spend (waste) most of my time. All of my art is created by hand, then enhanced or added to in Photoshop. I'm loving those stripes on the wall, but I'm still wishing they went around the room.
Thank you so much for visiting! You can buy prints and some originals of my work in my Esty shop or my Imagekind shop.

Summer is in full swing around here. Full of no schedules, sleeping in, hanging out with friends, swimming, enjoying life. This time of year is a blessing. I get to be a more fun mom. There's a lot less nagging to do and we're all grateful!
Our new neighborhood is turning out to be a dream come true. The kids play (gasp) outside. They have new friends. There's a neighborhood 4th of July parade which will pass right in front of our house & a block party on our street the end of July. I'm giddy with it all, I tell you.
One of the best things about this summer is having our own pool. I can't tell you what a pain it was to have to walk across the street to swim. Can you imagine? All kidding aside, I can watch them swim while: gardening, cooking, sketching (inside). The bottom line is they get to swim more often.
I'm so happy about their latest project! They are suddenly into Manga. I know, everybody else was ages ago, but better late than never. I got these books from the library and they've been drawing for days. That makes this artist mama so happy! Very little time has been spent with the tv so far. Must make sure that continues!
Here's a little project I'm working on. Drapes for my bedroom! We need these so badly. I won't torture you with the details, but we need these asap! You're welcome, neighbors!

My baby turned 9 today. I have no idea how that happened. I'm so glad that he's still a cuddly little guy. He's so amazing! He's always creating things. His latest is ninja stars out of paper and paper airplanes. He knits, he sews, he draws. Both of my boys are creative. It's great to share that with them.
We had a small pool party. This is the first one in our new house, no more big community pool for us. The kids all had a great time, and my house survived. Whew! I made the invitation flyer above and the nameplate was for the goodie bag. I tried to keep it very simple. I might make this into a collection.

I've updated my Semi Custom Collage Portrait pricing. Great deals are available now. These portraits go beyond portraiture, they tell a unique story. I love it when I can add images and items that speak to the subject's personality. It's a wonderful gift! Check it out here.

While searching around LinkedIn the other day, I came upon a presentation on an art director's profile showing the books she had art directed. There was a link to the application she used called SlideShare. I immediately signed up and started creating my own with PowerPoint. You can view it here. I think it's a great idea for illustrators! When you're trying to connect with potential clients, they can easily check out your work. You can have up to 3 presentations uploaded. I plan to create another one for licensing. Remember to save your images under "save for web…" before you place them in PowerPoint to keep your presentation small. I didn't the first time around which made it huge! Good luck!
