A great lunch & a little home decor.

I've had this great old file cabinet forever. It's big and holds everything, but it was so ugly! It was gray and rusted, but with a lot of paint and a cute little decal, it's gorgeous! I bought the decal from Single Stone Studios. They customized it to my specs. Don't you think everything should be beautiful, even something as mundane as a file cabinet? Isn't it just too cute?

Me, Bari, Devon, & Miranda.
Yesterday, I had the great pleasure to meet fabric designer extraordinaire, Bari J. Also joining us was Devon, an amazing muralist and textile designer, and her adorable daughter and my best friend, Beth. We had so much fun! I met Bari and Devon on Twitter. I know a lot of people just don't get the whole Twitter thing, but it's been great for me!

This is my best friend, Beth. She's a fantastic graphic designer and artist. We went to college together. As you know, I love color and she's color phobic, so I never imagined we'd end up both wearing purple. Great minds think alike, I guess.

More Goodies

My youngest has a beach themed room (or he will once I get around to painting it). I found these Tiki prints by Chet Phillips awhile ago and knew they'd be great for his room. Really, I just wanted an excuse to buy them, but don't tell my husband that.

I got a set of three. This one is titled "Dogu Tiki". I love how it combines the old robot toy look with a tiki. Fun and unexpected.

These are titled Nocturnal and Rooted. Love the composition and the colors. Isn't it great that my son chose the ones I liked too? '-)

Now I just need to find the perfect frames.

My newest goodie

I was so excited to receive my two 6" canvases from Kelly Rae Roberts. They are from her new line with Demdaco. I love them!!!! One says "Dream Big, permission granted" and the other says "Hope". Just what I need.

Right now, they're on my mantel. I always freeze up when it comes to hanging the art and they look good on the mantel anyway. I filled so many holes in these walls, that I'm afraid to make new ones. Pathetic, I know, don't worry, my BFF is coming this weekend to make me hang everything up.

Tomorrow, I'll show you what I got for my son's room. So many talented artists out there!

It feels so good to paint again!

I've been so busy with the house and the move that making art for fun has been a distant memory. If you're still reading this blog, you're probably wondering where the art has gone. I hope to share more with you soon.

Today I went to a friend's baby shower. She had asked me for a painting for the baby's room. Of course, I left it until the last minute. It didn't help that my studio looks like this.

Instead of delaying it to a more perfect time, I cleared off a corner of my drawing board and a spot on the floor in front of it. I felt so blocked, but I took Kelly Rae Robert's advice and pretended like I was in the mood. I had no plan for this painting at any point. I had no idea what it would look like or be about until I was almost finished. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!! As a color pencil artist I always have a plan and it takes a long time to complete it, so just winging it is heaven. I was grinning from ear to ear while I painted. I was joyful. I really think that shows in the painting.

My friend loves it and she loves dragonflies (as do I). She also told me that dragonflies are dream keepers. Spooky. I had no idea.

Saying Goodbye

I've never been good at saying goodbye or letting go, but it's been particularily hard to say goodbye to the color in my old house. I absolutely LOVE the terra cotta color in the loft. I wasn't able to use it in the new house. It just didn't look the same. I'm already thinking of repainting one wall in my studio in this color. My house is now very plain and uninteresting to me. It has been neutralized. Ugh!
And my purple kitchen. Love it!

Losing this wallpaper in my youngest's room was long overdue. He still loved it, but he's 8. Time to move on. I decorated it when I was pregnant with my 12yo. No baby ever slept in this room. Josh was the first and he was already 4 when it became his room. My mom used to joke that we only needed one bedroom.

But the absolute hardest part of selling the house is letting go of my mural. I'm still amazed that I painted it. I'm not a painter. I love Mary Grandpre's work, so doing this mural was a chance to step into her studio. I've stared at it everyday for the last 6+ years. I don't want to know if the new owners paint over it. Please nobody tell me!
